Pretty cool. Good job on the power distribution. About 12 years ago, I put an amp under a bucket seat in an S-10 I had. Forgot the fuse on the 4GA wire from the battery. Roommate sat in the seat and it pinched a smalled wire coming out of the distribution block I had under the seat and started to smoke. Had to pull the battery to keep it from catching on fire. Went and bought a fuse that afternoon.

It's likely not a big issue, especially at a pricepoint where you don't expect much, but a high output LED flashlight running cool is more a con than a pro, at least for basic lights that aren't thermally regulated. Lights get hot because they're properly heatsinked and are efficiently moving heat away from the emitter and out through the aluminum body, with the help of moving air, water, or your circulatory system if available. If the heat isn't given someplace to go, the emitter's lifespan will be reduced. Not quite as much of an issue with the efficiency of modern emitters, but any emitter still needs good heatsinking if pushed anywhere near its limits. Good writeup though, and good comparative shots; interesting blog.

I added a couple of pouches for food and one for my radio, then took it on a hike today. This bag is the perfect size and weight for my light hiking pack. Surprisingly, when carrying it the bag rides far enough back that if I needed to I could add a few small pouches to the front without them rubbing my arm. When swung forward, it hangs just like a personal cup holder making for very convenient water bottle access.

The bag is also long enough that the built-in attachment straps can easily be used as a belt tie-in to keep the bag steady when running or climbing.
